Weymouth, England

Another site I used to enjoy going to in the eighties was Weymouth which has an RSPB reserve in the middle of town at Radipole lake and Portland Bill is only a short drive away.

Dunnock

The lake held at least 12 Cetti's warbler in the reed beds and a long staying but presumably escaped hooded merganser. Gulls included several lesser black-backed gull and a single common gull.

Great crested grebe

Out on 'the Bill' the weather was very calm and most migrants appeared to have moved on but there were three purple sandpiper on the very tip of Portland together with an equal number of turnstone. Two common buzzard were found mating on top of a road sign and I found a single rock pipit somewhat predictably on the errr... rocks.
