Farne Islands: Grey seals

When identifying some creatures it's possible to lose the wood in the trees. I find British seals a big challenge. There are two species regularly seen around our coasts. The grey seal and the common seal.

The difference between the two species is relatively easy to the experienced eye. Nostril and forehead shape are key markers and colour and markings can sometimes help. But I can sit for ages staring at a close up photo trying to decide if the face is 'dog like' or 'cat like' or if the nostrils are v shaped.

Anyhow, I think these are both grey seals.
